The much-anticipated Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been intense.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds accompanied by songs about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner commented recently. "However I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 moves, and how many of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible reveals, some really cool backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans create a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
